Update 15 Feb 2010 Just a few things to update at this stage. Enrollments There has been a slight change to the enrollment process and form this year so as to make it easier for us all.
On the 3rd Feb the Committee met
again to update a few things including the tennis courts. To make
along story short we have reviewed the proposal put forward and that is
available to have a look at on the website ( the link is further
down the page). After a number of the committee measure the
grounds and got the correct sizes for age group football fields it
appears that we can all live and play alongside each other at Bluett
park. In fact although we will be losing some ground space we can
in fact have an extra 2 pitches (definitely 2 and possibly more until
the tennis courts get built) just by marking out the fields more
accurately and using our space wisely. Therefore as a committee
we see no reason at this stage to object to the tennis clubs
proposal. However to be transparent and function as a committee
correctly we need to notify you of our recommendations and ask for your
comments as club members. So if you wish to submit anything
please email your comments to me
as soon as possible. All comments will be considered and passed
on.
Committee Business The minutes from the latest
committee meeting have been posted on the websites committee page for
your interest. Provisional new members to the committee have
advised us of their wish to lend a hand and make the club a better
place so welcome to Jodi Hands & Wil Blakeway.
Bayday The season is fast approaching and
bayday has been confirmed as the 1st may 2010 so be in quick and get
practicing,I know that other clubs premier teams have been continuing
to practice all summer. They must not want to get beaten by us
again.
Mcmecking We will not fail this year.
It will be in the Joga bonita format as proposed last year and has been
booked to go ahead on the Sunday the 9th may 2010 so come on and get
training. Teams of three and you don't have to come from the same
club team. more information will follow early next month.
I guess that that is about it for
now but I will try to keep you all update as much as possible.
Keep an eye out for the new teams names to my right as they will change
as enrollments come in and teams are confirmed. If you want
anything off of your teams site from last year print it out now or let
me know and I will get you a copy of the file, but be in quick because
I don't want to keep them for too long.
HAPPY NEW YEAR Sorry for being a bit slack at updating what has been going on but work and holiday commitments have made it hard to find the spare time. Anyway here goes. AGM On the 2nd of December the Ohope Junior soccer club had its 2009 AGM and although there were only 6 of the committee members present (understandably Dave couldn't make it) we were able to get through a good amount of business. Our thanks must first of all go out to Helen & Penny who have tirelessly put in a number of hours for the club and who have tendered their resignations effective as at the AGM but who have also agreed to continue on until their positions have been filled. (Penny was the secretary and Helen was the treasurer) So if you would like to volunteer for either of these positions please email me and I will forward to the committee to officially register your interest. We do have a lot of laughs and get a lot out of helping our & your children enjoy a better football club so please come on board, the more the merrier. Kathy, Kenny, Andrew, Dave & myself have decided to continue on for the year and what a year it is going to be(more on that a little later) Kathy presented her presidents report which is available to look at by hitting this link and Helen has also produced the annual accounts which where audited and are also available for viewing here. TENNIS COURTS I guess the next biggest news if you haven't heard about it, is that the Ohope Tennis club have put forward a proposal to the Whakatane district council to erect/ install 4 tennis courts at Bluett Park. This has been an ongoing situation for a number of years and is getting very close to a resolution/ decision by the council. On the 15th Dec 2009 an informal meeting was held at the Ohope charter club and involved, Kathy, Kenny, Penny, Myself(OJSC) Mogens Poppe, Dave Howe(Ohope Tennis) Hayden Reid(whk district council)Chris Dohrman(ohope community board), Megan Cleverly (sport BOP) and Gerrard Casey. Over that past few years the Tennis club has unsuccessfully tried to obtain the 6th & 7th grade pitch on the bluett rd boundary of bluett park and have since been dealing directly with the council over which part of Bluett park they could use. However thanks to Helen, Penny and Kathy we formally objected to any tennis courts unless we were fully consulted as to there whereabouts and impact on our football pitches. Therefore this meeting was held to formalize the process and have transparency for the club so the matter could move forward and be resolved to the benefit of all. Although the tennis club were seeking our approval at this meeting all parties finally agreed that Megan would liaise with all involved, finalize a proposal to be signed off by all parties and then submit the resolution to the council for their approval. The time line for this process is to have it all completed by the end of February all going well and I will do my utmost to keep you informed of the progress. In the mean time if you follow these links you should be able to see a map of the preliminary proposal by the Tennis club and an outline of the process we will be going through. If you have anything you would like to submit to the committee then please email me or kathy with your concerns/recommendations and we will be only too happy to consider them. 2010 All I can say is go the All whites. What a great perfomance we saw late in 2009 for the All whites to beat Bahrain 1-0 in Wellington and make it to the 2010 football world cup in South Africa. This is one of the biggest sporting achievements in NZ Sport in 2009 and in NZ football Ever and as a committee we hope to get on board with NZ football and make the most of our pre-tournament warm up match's and the tournament match's themselves. We are thinking of hiring a bus to get to any games in NZ to allow our club members and families to see the all whites live while they can, and hopefully finding a venue to watch the world cup games live/delayed as a group and having a heap of fun doing it. if you have any suggestions please let me know and again we will consider anything. Finally watch this space as we intend to get registrations and training underway earlier that normal this year and we will be again trying to run the JOGA BONITA tournament before the start of the season somewhere around Bayday to ensure an enthusiastic turnout and awesome day. it will be the same format, same place , and more fun than any other tournament you've taken part in. Thanks again for using the website and see you soon. Email the webmaster Thanks again to you all, Simon Mitchell. 24/05/2009 |
