Late 2009 Presidents Report Ohope Junior Soccer Club Another season over and another great year
for the children of Ohope Junior Soccer Club.
We had around 130 players this year split between 15 teams. My personal thanks goes out to all of the parents who ferried children to and from games, practices and supported them from the sidelines. The good sportsmanship of our young players has been duly noted. Their behaviour at Saturday games before, during and after matches reflected our Club Motto: Team Mates, Team Work, Team Spirit . I would also like to thank the Coaches and Managers who did such a wonderful job…OJSC has achieved some fantastic results this season. We had 2 of our premier teams win their grade and one of our 8th grade first division teams come third overall. We also had a number of our players trial and play for the Eastern Bay of Plenty Representative teams. Unfortunately we are always needing parents to support the club and the committee and we need to entice people to step up and give the coaches, managers and the committee a hand. I would like to acknowledge the feedback we have received from parents. Most was very positive however we do acknowledge we might not always ‘ get it right’. I have learned a lot this season and the committee and I aim to take any feedback on board and move positively into the 2010 season. We aim to have registration underway earlier next year. This will allow us, the committee, to have plenty of time to organise teams, coaches , managers and trials . I have also been liaising with the representatives of Wai/Bop NZ Soccer Federation and we plan to work together to support OJSC coaches and players eg skills courses, coaching courses and possibly club based referee courses to be run out of Ohope. We have had all of our kit bags returned and all in pretty good order as well. Thanks to Penny who has become our Equipment officer, she has sorted through these and has replaced equipment as necessary. These are all ready to go!! Storage facilities are an issue. We are currently investigating some ideas for better storage. One idea is to utilise the hall another is a lockable trailer. We will discuss the hall idea a little further in general business. New gear…Penny will also be investigating funding applications to upgrade our nets, corner posts etc. Kenny will give an outline on coaching ideas for 2010. I will be working on updating the coaching folders over the Xmas break. The McMeeking tournament unfortunately was not held this year for a number of reasons. The 2009 season ran for most of September and therefore finding a weekend before the school holidays proved difficult. We did have a number of teams enter for the October date however not enough to run a fully fledged “Fast and Furious” Joga Bonito style tournament. We need the tournament to run earlier in the season, preferably just after BAY DAY. We, the committee, also need parents to step forward and help us out with the organising of this tournament. At this point I would sincerely like to thank every member of our committee. Each one has worked tirelessly at getting players into teams, fund raising, getting sponsorship monies, obtaining great spot prizes for our Prize giving, liaising with council, working on the Joga Bonito tournament, working on our recent audit, reviewing registration processes, organising and maintaining our website, liaising with Wai/Bop NZ Football , attending the EBOP Junior Management Meetings as well as coaching or managing teams. This was achieved by 7 parents who have volunteered their time and effort. Next year is probably going to be one of the biggest years for New Zealand Football. Our National squad have qualified for the worlds largest and most prestigious sports event…..The FIFA World Cup Finals…. We aim to have a really fun, positive season and are already planning some events around the screening of the World Cup… We therefore need to encourage our Junior members and new players to come and join OJSC for another season of Football…the worlds most beautiful game. Thank you for our success this year and I look forward to 2010. Kathy Hamilton-Coulter OJSC President mid 2009 Presidents Report Since being voted the Ohope Junior Soccer Club president on the 5th March, I have embarked on a steep learning curve. I truly believe that kids need team sport and soccer offers them so much including being part of a team and also learning about winning and losing ,important aspects of life in general. I have to thank the committee who have all rallied around and divided up the work that needs to be done between now and the start of the season. This is voluntary work and requires a lot of time to get things up and running. I am grateful to all the parents who have decided to be coaches or managers this year ..this is invaluable and the club would not function without you. We always need parents to help ( I am only a phone call away). An update on what has been happening since the 5th March 09. COMMITTEE: We have now had two meetings this year and have successfully negotiated our way through the selection of not only the committee itself but also the 2009 teams you see to the right. INCORPORATION We, the committee, will now look at applying for funding. We do need to look at rebuilding existing goals and possibly purchasing nets for all goals. We also need to consider the provision of corner flags for all fields and wheelie bins. TRIALS and GRADING Trials have taken place for many of our teams and have been necessary to assess player’s skills and aligning teams appropriately. There has also been a drive to keep players in their grade ( according to their soccer age. ) Players can ‘play up’ a grade if parents/caregivers approach the Club captain . (Please state why your child would benefit and develop from playing in a grade above their soccer age..) The player will then play in trials for their soccer age and then the grade above. The decision will then be made by the committee based on the individual’s skill level and ability to play as a team member in the selected grade. We, the committee, apologise if this message has not been clear for the 2009 season. We endeavor to have the trials (and grading issues) sorted out earlier in the 2010 season. We will keep you posted. BUDDING BECKHAMS With Sheryll moving to 7th grade this year we still need a coach and players. However we are getting interested parents and players enquiring so hopefully will have a Budding Beckham team later on this season. RESULTS OFFICER TBC WEBSITE Thanks to Steve Gore for his wonderful work . Steve has now moved to Tauranga and we now have a new webmaster Simon Mitchell This is a great interface for all. I really encourage our team managers to send to Simon their teams highlights of the week. It makes for great reading AND lets the rest of the club know just how well your team is doing!!! MOTTO
"What does Soccer mean to you"We do not have a club motto. The
committee have decided this would be positive for our club. Please ALL
players we would like your ideas.
We need a short, sharp and memorable motto that our club players and members will remember. All Club players are eligible to enter and you could win a $50.00 dollar gift voucher. These sponsors are vital to keep our club going. We have changed the billboards to Banners this year. If your team has a sponsor’s banner please ensure it is erected at every home game!
