2009 draw result

Ohope Stealth vs Whakatane Phoenix.

This was a top of the table clash and it was always going to be a tough match.
The Stealth were without their regular goal keeper and Sam Dobbin was good enough to step forward. Sam did a fine job as well keeping the opposition scoreless. For his efforts Sam was awarded man of the match.

Early on the Stealth had their chances. Liam Gordon had the first 2 shots at goal. One over the X bar. The second just wide after he beat 2 defenders.
At the other end Robby Gordon had a good first half clearing the ball on a number of occasions when the Phoenix broke through .
After 15min Leo Casey showed good ball control and had a good shot at goal but was denied by the Phoenix goal keeper.

It was much of the same in the second half. Leo Griffith putting in some nice corners and cross balls while Caleb Adams shot just cleared the X bar. The Phoenix defense was good and their goal keeper had a really good game, denying the Stealth on a number of occasions. One of these chances was another great header by Liam.
The Phoenix had their own chances but only once beat our keeper and it looked like it would be in the net. However Robby Mercer got his leg to the ball and saved the day.

In the final moments Revell Chambers put a ball down the right wing to Ariel Hall who looked like he was fouled twice, once in the penalty area. The penalty, after playing an advantage, was given but later withdrawn after a discussion between the coaches.

The Match was drawn nil all

Ohope Stealth VS Awakeri.

1st half.
The game started slow. The Stealth seem to go through a warm up while they got their passing game going followed by a number of unsuccessful shots at goal. Awakeri were competitive on the ball as well as physical. However they seldom threatened the Stealth goal as the Stealth defense  was solid. Amedeas, Sam Corsten, Robbie Gordon, Robbie Mercer and Sam Dobbin did their defensive jobs well. Our keeper Tim Waller organized the defense and kept focused on the game despite the fact things were a bit quiet for him.
Caleb Adam and Leo Casey once again had good games in the mid field getting back on a number of occasions to help the defense out.
The first goal came half way through the second half. Ariel Hall scored making it 1 to nil.
Leo Casey scored the second goal .
Leo Griffith's had to contend with a tall girl on the left wing who lined him up with her shoulder a few times. But as you would expect Leo just let his skill do the talking and had another solid game.

The second half was a similar pace to the first.
Paraone Muru pounced on the loose ball in front of the goal after a period of Stealth attack. He made it 3 to nil.
Late in the game Leo C made a cross which found the head of Liam Gordon. The header was on target and the score was then 4 to nil.
The last 5minutes The stealth put constant pressure on the Awakeri Goal. Paraone took a corner and hit the top of the cross bar and was denied.
The Awakeri goal keeper did well and the 5th goal never came.

Final score. The Stealth 4, but more importantly Awakeri nil.

It was a home game for Ohope against the Whakatane Devils.(WHK)

The 1st half started with Ohope putting pressure on the WHK goal for much of the 1st half. Joseph Hall got his head to a couple of crosses but the WHK keeper did his job well.
Robby Mercer had a great shot at goal only to be beaten by the cross bar.
After 20 minutes Ariel Hall put in a cross to his brother Joseph who made the score 1 to nil.
Following this the Stealth went up a notch. Revell Chambers put a ball through to Ariel. Ariel made one of his trade mark runs and took a shot. The WHK goal keeper made the save but Joseph did well to pounce on the loose ball and make the score 2 to nil.
Liam Gordon set the next goal up by putting in a cross to Caleb Adams who put a long ball into the net. 3 to nil.
In the 2nd half WHK lifted their game. Their defense improved, although Ohope once again had the lions share of the attack. Leo Griffith was disallowed a goal for off side.
A certain WHK goal was saved by Sam Corsten after our keeper was beaten.
It was WHK who scored after 15minutes from a corner making the score 3 to 1.
Caleb and Amadeus both had really good games. There defense shut down the WHK attack on various occasions.
Finally Ariel found the back of the net and the game finished at;
Ohope 4, WHK Devils 1.

Man of the match was Amadeus.

A good result for the Stealth as they managed to avenge their only loss of the season against the Saints entering into round 2.
The Ist half performance from the Stealth a was Clinical. The goals set up by accurate passing and good defence mean't their was really only one team in it.
Ariel Hall and Leo Casey both scored in the 1st 15 minutes. Leo put the ball in the top right corner of the net from outside the penelty area. It was a cracker.
One of the rare breaks by Saints was then shut down by Cole Campion and Amedieus who played strong games.
The 3rd goal came from a cross from Revell Chambers  to Joseph Hall who put the ball in the nett. Joseph also scored the 4th goal after a long run and cross from his brother Ariel.
Robbie Mercer had a strong 1st half feeding a lot of long ball to the forwards from his defensive position.
The 2nd half started a bit slow probably due to a number of positional changes that needed to settle.
Leo Griffiths scored after 15 minutes making it 5 to 0. Leo also played a valuable game making various crosses from the left wing and corners.
Revell scored and made it 6 to 0.
Saints made a break but Robbie Gordon was there to stop them while Calieb Adams made the final clearance.
Leo G took yet another accurate corner kick which set up Joseph for his 3rd goal.
Final score 7 to 0.
A happy coach "Chris Casey" high lighting the fact the opposition had been kept goaless due to his side defensive effort.
Man off the match went to Cole Campion which was well deserved.

Ohope Stealth vs Otakiri/Edgecumbe Falcons.

17 to nil.

Started the game 1 man down until Caleb Adam arrived, who played another solid game.
The Falcons defense did will on the first part of the game with their goal keeper saving them on several occasions. "MOT" McKenzie's daughter played a good mid field game for them.
As for the Stealth's their passing game really clicked after about 10 minutes and the goals started to come. 17 in all.
Joseph Hall open the scoring with a quick short range shot and went on the score 5 in total.
Caleb scored and also  delivered a number of really good corners and crosses which set up other players.
Leo Casey and Revell Chambers further developed their one,two passing game which resulted in goals early on. Leo also hit a lovely ball over the keepers head into the net after seeing the keeper was out of his goal.
There was an own goal scored be the Falcons after a corner from Caleb and Paraone got his head to it.
Arial Hall played another good game scoring goals but his finest moment was when he struck a lovely header just wide of the goal. Premier stuff.
As the game wore on the unsung heroes in defence were allowed to push forward and have a go at scoring themselves. Robbie Mercer and the unleashed goal keeper Tim Waller finding the back of the net.
Player of the day went to Robbie Gordon for his solid performance in defence, tidying up on the occasions when everyone else was well forward.
Goals.
Joseph  5.
Ariel  1.
Leo G1.
Leo C 3.
Paraone 2.

Ohope stealth vs WHK Pheonix. Played on Sunday afternoon due to rain.

Result Stealth 2 VS Phenoix 1.
Another tight game. 1st half finished in even with all goals in the second half.
Paaone Muru put a lovely high ball into the net over the goal keeper.
Phenoix draw level after being given a penalty after an accidental hand ball in the box.
Leo Casey cleaned up the spoils to get the ball into the net after a corner kick to put the Stealths back in the lead which they held due to an excellent defence by keeper Tim Waller and his defenders.

Player of the day went to Revell Chambers for his passing and defence along the left wing/mid field.

Ohope Stealth beat Opotiki Magpies 1-0.
It was an exciting game which either team could have one. Opotiki had a lot of chances but Lady luck wasn't with them on the day.
Ariel Hall had some good chances for the Stealth and was well supported by his mid field team mates. Finally he put the all important goal on the back of the net. The stealths then had to defend fiercely for most of the second half.
Liam Fonville/Gordon was player of the day with a special mention for Leo Griffit
