Dolphins vs Hakuna Matata Transfield 2-1 Win
What a great game of soccer! Two well matched teams having a great tussle in Matata. The Dolphins were always going to be up against it this game as we had the bare minimum of players, so no subs or rest for the lads. Hakuna Matata Transfield came out firing from the first whistle and pressured the Dolphins goal many times. Jack did some great saves as goalie but ultimately the pressure took its toll and one slipped past to make it 1 up to Matata. It wasn’t all one way though; as the game wore on it seemed that the Dolphins began to warm up and get into the game. After a period of even play, Jordan finally broke free and dribbled the ball up the field before lining up a nice kick that sailed past the goalie to even the scores at 1-1. Ricky was now in goal and was doing an excellent job defending the Matata attacks. Joe, Jordan, Jack and Chan were piecing together even more attacks as the game wore on and it now appeared that the Dolphins were wrestling their way into the game. The Matata goalie was doing an excellent job of holding off the Dolphins attacks, but finally Jack managed to hit a shot hard enough that the ball spilled from the goalies hands and bounced and then slowly dribbled into the Matata goal. It was now 2-1 to the Dolphins. The Matata team made a final push for the Dolphins goal but were unlucky not to score, as a 2 all score would have been a fitting end to what really was two evenly matched teams. Well done to both teams for making it such an entertaining start to the weekend. Ricky was player of the day for perseverance and being a fine goalie! July 25
It’s
really pleasing to see all players coming on with skills and
confidence. A lot of our team are playing their first season and the
progression in enthusiasm and team work is really tremendous ! The
start-of-the-season ‘bunch around the ball’ has diminished and there is
more of a spread and passing the ball between players. Many of the
players are showing real aptitude in setting the ball up for other
players. Ohope Dolphins vs Awakeri Warriors 3 – 0 win Another
game with the team passing between players and calling for the ball.
Ricky was back from his extended holiday overseas and seemed to be
putting all the energy he had stored up from the missed games into this
one – he looked like the boy from the ‘Incredibles’ the way he was
zipping around the field.
Plenty of shots made at the Warriors goal but their goalie was onto most of them (well done!) which held the score to 0-0 until well into the first half. Another two goals scored in the second half brought the game to a close. Joe was player of the day for telling the rest of the team to ‘spread out and pass’ throughout the game. Alex has broken his arm so we’re one team member down for a while. Get well soon Alex! June 27 Ohope Dolphins vs Glenns Glass Ohope Mustangs 10 – 0 win Not
much to be said really, the team was on fire and really beginning to
show the fruits of Alex’s coaching with the team spreading out and
beginning to pass to each other. Jack seemed to benefit the most from
the inter-passing and shot some fine goals including one from halfway.
Raihaan scored his first goal of the season after receiving a nice pass
into the shooting box. Goal of the day had to go Chan Thomson as he
brought the ball out from the goal line near the corner , turned on it
and shot it in from wide out. The Mustangs never gave up and were
unlucky not to score with a surge up the field in the second half.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxA great team effort by everyone. ![]() The parents all deserve a pat on the back for their support with attending training, offering lots of positive encouragement from the sidelines, supplying oranges and washing the shirts. Don’t miss the special appearance of Moira’s Ginger Crunch on the sideline sometime this season (BYO flask of coffee!) Most importantly, we are all having fun – even on those misty damp mornings it’s great to see the team giving it their all with lots of smiles. Our thanks to Alex and Glenn as coach/managers for their continued support and determination ! Heres some photos from one of our first games. ![]() ![]() EBOPJMC
